1. Understand the Research Question and Objectives

Ask yourself, does the paper aim to fill existing research gaps or provide new insights?

2. Examine the Literature Review

Review how the authors present existing research on the topic. Are the most relevant and recent studies included?
Check if the literature review is comprehensive and unbiased. Are there any significant studies or viewpoints overlooked?
Assess whether the authors identify the gap their research is filling and the significance of their work.

3. Evaluate the Research Methodology

Review the sampling methods: Are they clearly defined? Is the sample size adequate and representative?
Consider the data collection and analysis techniques: Are they rigorous and transparent? Are there any limitations or biases?

Look at the presentation of the results. Are they clear, accurate, and supported by data?
Evaluate how the authors interpret their findings. Do they draw logical conclusions based on the results or overgeneralise?
Consider if the authors acknowledge limitations or alternative explanations for the results.

5. Assess the Paper’s Contribution and Impact

Reflect on the significance of the research. Does it contribute new knowledge or insights to the field?
Consider the implications of the study. How does it influence theory, practice, or future research?
Evaluate if the paper offers practical recommendations or areas for further study.

6. Critique the Writing Quality

Review the clarity and flow of the writing. Is the paper well-organized and easy to follow?
Check for any grammar, spelling, or formatting errors that could affect the paper’s professionalism.
Consider if the authors are concise and precise in their language or if there are areas of redundancy or vagueness.
